The senior management team has over 100 aggregate years of diverse, yet focused institutional real estate experience. Senior management is directly responsible for investment decisions and client communication, two factors that are integral to client satisfaction. The firm's principals act as the portfolio manager for each of our clients.

Gary Schwandt Principal

Gary Schwandt Principal

Gary is a founding member of Great Point. He oversees all client-related services including communications, financial reporting, and business development. Gary is a member of the investment committee and the portfolio manager for two separate account clients. He is actively involved in making acquisitions for all of the firm's clients.

Gary has over 30 years of experience as a real estate fiduciary, including executive positions with AMRESCO Advisors, Inc., and its predecessors, including PCA Realty Advisors. During his career Gary has focused on off-market investments, forming numerous successful ventures with local operators. These investments have included all five of the major property types. He has formed two private REITs and has been involved with acquisitions and operations of two publicly traded real estate companies.

Gary holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MSA from George Washington University. He is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association and a Council Member of the Urban Land Institute. Gary also served for seven years on the board of The University Club of Boston, including two as President.

Joseph Versaggi Principal

Joseph Versaggi Principal

Joe is a founding member of Great Point. Joe oversees asset-related activities including research, investment strategy and acquisitions for Great Point, and is actively involved in making acquisitions for all of the firm's clients. He leads the firm's annual investment strategy reviews. Joe also serves as a member of the investment committee, and is the portfolio manager for our largest separate account client.

Joe has over 25 years of experience in acquisitions, finance, dispositions, portfolio management and financial reporting, having managed the Portfolio and Asset Management Group at both Amresco and Baring Advisors, as well as the financial reporting group at Landauer Advisors.

Joe holds a BS degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a Masters degree from New York University. He is a certified public accountant in the state of New York. Before entering the investment advisory field, Joe was a member of the audit group in the New York office of Price Waterhouse. He has served as Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors for the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries, and is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association. Joe serves on the external advisory board of the Schreyer Honors College of the Pennsylvania State University.

Kathy Sweeney  Principal

Kathy is a Principal with the firm and developed its senior housing investment strategy. She has been an active senior housing equity investor since 1997, during which time she has been involved in development, repositioning and stabilized acquisitions with AEW Capital Management on behalf of opportunistic funds, CalPERS and State of Michigan Retirement System. Kathy most recently represented The GPT Group, an Australian listed property trust in the United States managing their senior housing investments. In her role with GPT, Kathy was embedded with their operating partner, allowing her access to the operating intricacies of the senior living business and deepening her knowledge.

Kathy has been responsible for more than $2.5 billion of senior living investments in major metropolitan markets in the US. Her commercial real estate experience included acquisitions, asset management and dispositions of all property types across the US. Kathy serves on the firm’s investment committee. Kathy is the Immediate Past Chairwoman of the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care Industries (NIC); she serves on the Executive Board of the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA); is a member of New England Women in Real Estate (NEWIRE) and the Pension Real Estate Association.

Kathy is a graduate of Boston University and has earned a certificate in Strategic Decisions and Risk Management from Stanford University.

Richard Leeret  Vice President, Asset Management

Rich oversees the asset management group. In addition, he is responsible for a portfolio of approximately three million square feet of office and industrial properties in eight markets across the country. Rich's responsibilities include selecting and overseeing third-party property management and leasing firms, developing and implementing strategic asset plans, negotiating leases, evaluating and overseeing dispositions, preparing property valuations, and preparing annual client business plans.

Rich has over 15 years of experience in the areas of asset management, dispositions, finance and accounting. Prior to joining Great Point Investors in 2004, Rich was Vice President of Asset Management at Cabot Properties, Inc. where he managed over $300 million of industrial properties. He began his real estate career at Leggat McCall Properties Management, LP, where he was a Property Management Accountant from 1994 to 1996.

Rich holds a BA in Economics from the State University of New York at Potsdam.

Jenny Macheras CFO/Senior Vice President, Accounting

Jenny manages the accounting group and is a member of the investment committee. As Chief Financial Officer, her responsibilities include all company and client accounting and financial reporting. Her extensive experience with property-level accounting and reporting issues has positioned her well to understand and scrutinize financial information provided to Great Point by property managers. Our clients benefit by receiving customized reports and timely responses to inquiries from the financial reporting group.

Jenny has over 25 years of real estate accounting experience. Prior to joining Great Point Investors at its inception, Jenny worked at Property Capital Trust, a publicly traded REIT with a diversified portfolio of properties located throughout the United States. Prior to joining Property Capital Trust in 1992, Jenny was a Financial Manager for Spaulding & Slye, where she was responsible for management of all accounting and reporting functions for partnerships and third party contracts.

Jenny holds a BS from the University of Massachusetts in accounting.
